Lime Rendering & Lime Plastering

Rendering

  • All Aspects Of Traditional Lime Render Finishes, Maintenance And Repair
  • Natural Hydraulic Lime Renders
  • Non Hydraulic Lime Renders
  • Through Colour 'Pigmented' Hydraulic Lime Renders
  • Render Matching Service
  • Ashlar/ Struck Render ( Imitating Stone Effect)
  • Traditional Lime Harling
  • Lime Wash Service

The biggest advantage of using lime renders is the breathability/ permeability of the material, allowing moisture to pass through the structure which is important in any building but even more important in Historic buildings.

We use both Natural Hydraulic Lime and Non Hydraulic Lime renders; normally the choice will come down to the assessment of the existing/ original material. We carefully choose the correct aggregates for each render, as this is imperative for successful exterior application.

The use of 'through coloured lime renders' has the advantage over non pigmented lime renders as there is no requirement for a lime wash to be applied after application of render, which can add considerable cost. Coloured renders can only be used in certain situations as they are not strictly authentic in terms of historic usage but they do have a place in building conservation.

Ashlar effect render has been popular since the 18th Century when renders had lines struck onto the surface to imitate stone which was, in comparison to brick extremely expensive. We offer an Ashlar/ struck render finish service. We offer a lime wash service to complement our on applied renders or a refreshment service to your existing lime wash.

Plastering

  • All Aspects Of Traditional Lime Plastering Finishes, Maintenance And Repair
  • Hydraulic Lime Plasters
  • Non Hydraulic Lime Plasters
  • Haired Lime Plasters
  • Lathe and Plaster Service
  • Lathe Maintenance And Repair
  • Polish Plastering Service
  • Lime Wash Service
The biggest advantage of using lime plasters is the breathability/ permeability of the material, allowing moisture to pass through the structure.

We use both Natural Hydraulic Lime and Non Hydraulic Lime plasters; normally the choice will come down to the assessment of the existing/ original material. We carefully chose the correct aggregates for each lime plaster as this is imperative for successful application.

Lathe and Plastering requires preparation and thought for successful application. We use hand split sweet chestnut lath and machined oak lathes usually depending on the original fabric. All fixings used on the lathes are stainless steel to inhibit corrosion once the lime plaster has been applied.

For our haired plasters we use locally sourced horse, goat or cow hair depending on application of plaster; for example goat being used in the top coats due to the thinner profile.

We offer a lime wash service to complement on our applied plasters or a refreshment service to your existing lime wash.
